How are all my fantastic foodies doing?
I’ve got one of my favorite classics for you guys today.
I can’t remember a time when there wasn’t pizza at home while we were growing up. My mom absolutely loves, loves, loves her pizza. Any day, anytime. Whenever Dad was out of town, we’d have couch dinners and 9 outta 10 times it was pizza. Usually topped with chicken and veggies.
Pizza and I have got a lot of memories- we go way back!
I suppose it’s only fitting it’s the first recipe of 2019. Here’s to more crisp, chewy and delicious pizzas!
We love our pizza crusts thick and soft and prefer them over the thin pan crusts. I’ve worked on this recipe for a couple years to get the prefect pizza every time!
One of the saddest things when we moved to India was the lack of good pizzas. I mean you get great thin pan crusts in cafes but a good chewy crust is literally impossible to come by! That is when this quick and easy pizza dough recipe comes to the rescue!
This pizza dough is pretty easy to put together- you can mix everything by hand or in the bowl of a stand mixer until combined.
Leave to rise for an hour, no more.
The miracle of yeast! It’s very important to grease the bowl well so you can easily remove the risen dough.
I also run the pizza cutter or a butter knife about 2 inches from the edge of the circle of rolled out dough to create perfect thick crust and to keep the toppings off the edges.
I personally love the plain crust left at the end of a delectable slice. You’ll find me picking off the leftover crusts from my families plates- for those who don’t enjoy them. I’ve gotta ask, how can you not love the crispy tops and soft, pillowy center and the intoxicating scent of yeast?
This easy, 10 minutes of prep pizza crust recipe will become a staple at home for the perfect thick and chewy pizza crust that is soft and full proof!

- 1 cup warm water
- 1 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 (2 1/4) packet/ tsps active dry/ instant yeast
- Pinch of salt
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 2 cups + 7 tbsp all purpose flour
In the bowl of a stand mixer with the dough hook attached/ large bowl and wooden spoon if making by hand, pour in 1 cup warm water. Water shouldn't be too hot, just warm to touch.
Add sugar and stir. Sprinkle yeast. Let stand for two minutes until it becomes frothy.
Add olive oil, salt and all purpose flour and using a wooden spoon, mix until it all comes together and the flour is incorporated.
Move over to a lightly floured surface and knead for a minute. Transfer to a greased bowl, cover with cling film or towel and let rise in a draft free area for about an hour.
Once doubled in size, transfer to a floured surface and divide in half. This dough is enough for two 9" pizzas.
Preheat oven to 180ºC/ 350ºF.
Roll lightly into a 9" circle, careful not to flatten all the air pockets. It doesn't have to be perfect- it'll still taste great and look rustic.
With a knife, run a circle about two inches from the edge. This helps you keep the toppings within the circle and a thick crust to enjoy!
Top with your favourite pizza sauce, mozzarella and favourite toppings! Place on a pizza pan/baking tray and bake for 30 minutes or until golden and cheese is bubbly.
